(Lab Required) (Formerly 016.102) It's a crazy world; come and find out why objects fall, slide, bounce, stick, go in circles or stay straight, float or sink, glide or crash. Why don't satellites fall to the ground? What exactly does weightlessness mean anyway? Find answers to these and other questions as you get to know Newton's and other basic laws of nature and see what makes the world go round. This course, together with the sequel PHYS 1030 (or 016.103), is recommended for students seeking either a single, comprehensive course in Physics or entry into health science programs. It may also be used for entry into the Honours Physics program (""B+"" or better) or the Major Physics program (""B"" or better). Not to be held with PHYS 1021, PHYS 1050, PHYS 1051 (016.105), PHYS 1410 (016.141), PHYS 1420 (016.142), or the former 016.127. Prerequisites: Either Physics 40S, PHYS 0900 (016.090) (P), or equivalent; and either Pre-calculus Mathematics 40S, Applied Mathematics 40S (with 70% or better), or equivalent. It is strongly recommended that students attain a minimum of 70% as the average of their marks in Physics 40S and Pre-calculus Mathematics 40S.

CommentsThis course is horrible. Needed it as a requirement for something else and barely made it through. The one prof is very hard to understand and he is all over the place with his lectures. Labs are doable if you have a smart partner and nice lab teacher. The year I took the average for the final was a 55% 👎🏼AdviceGo to the physics help room for everything and study each day constantly practicing. |

Fall 2015 - Prof: Khodr Shamseddine
CommentsHonestly this course was mostly high school stuff with the exceptions of rotational dynamics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics. However, the exams they give ARE VERY HARD so prepare yourself.AdviceHope that your grade isn't as depressing as writing the exams and hope that your chem 1300 exam isn't on the same day as the exam for this course. |

Summer 2018 - Prof: Basnet
CommentsProf was an absolute joke. The dickwad wouldn't even give me full marks for the iClicker. Couldn't understand shit in his class. He covered 14 chapters in 14 lectures. Lab was easy. Most of the course is high school, but whatever isn't is actually pretty hard.AdviceIf you like physics then by all means take this. Not really hard and not really easy. |

Fall 2015 - Prof: None
CommentsThis course is very easy, except for the final. The final will have questions that you have never seen before, even if you do all of the textbook questions and previous finals (as I did). Also, your lab mark will depend on your TA, as in some classes you will barely get above 80, while other TA's give 100 to all the students. Also, hope you do not have your chem 1300 and physics 1020 finals on the same day....AdviceDo the hardest practice questions you can find. |

Fall 2017 - Prof: Dr. Ens
CommentsI would say about 60% of the course is high school review, although at a much faster pace. Dr. Ens does a lot of examples in class and posts all his notes online (sometimes late, but not a big deal). The midterm was ridiculously easy (the average was almost 80%), but the final kicked most people's asses (average was 55%). The first lab is a bit of a joke, but the other ones aren't too bad. Tutorial tests are pretty easy.AdviceDo the old exams because they often change the wording in some of the questions, or just copy questions verbatim. There is one chapter that isn't studied in class that is needed for the lab; it is examinable so don't forget about it. I don't know what the other profs were like, but Dr. Ens was good enough so that I got an A without putting too much work into it. |

CommentsI had a really hard time with this course, though because of the lab assignments I was able to raise my grades. There are a bunch of lab assignments, iClicker participation marks, online assignments, a midterm, and a final. Unfortunately the midterm and final are multiple choice so there's no chance of part marksAdvicePut your best work into the lab assignments because it's easy to get high marks if you actually put in time. With the online assignments, you have multiple chances at getting full marks - use them cuz you'll need the grades |

CommentsCouldn't understand the prof, but the course practically just covers high school physics. Didn't pay attention in class but did very single practice problem available on the online workbook and the examples in class. The exam is very fair and the questions are usually recycled through the yearsAdviceDo every practice problem and the course is not hard |

CommentsMost of this course is high school review, however, you get into new material post midterm. The midterm is easy, but the final will be more difficultAdviceDo all possible practice exams, some of them get repeated |

Commentshonestly this course SHOULD have been easy, and probably would be if you bothered studying for it more than 1 day before the exam. Most of the content is high school review, and the labs are pretty easy. Unfortunately the course requires and iClicker. The final exam is only out of 30, but is worth 40% of your grade so really pay attention to each question.AdviceGo to class to get those iClicker points, and ask for help from the lab TA(s), mine was super chill and would basically tell you the right answers. |

Fall 2018 - Prof: Mammai
CommentsThis is such a hard course. Don’t take it if you don’t have too. Prof teaches you absolutely nothing. It’s what she calls “active learning” aka watch a 30 second video on a whole unit and expect you to understand it. She doesn’t teach in class, just has iclicker questions and group assignments. Also gets really offended when you say you don’t understand course material. Would NOT recommend this course at all. Exams are made for you to fail. Good luck, you’re going to need it. No notes are givenAdviceDrop out or you’ll just end up doing it after the midterm. I wish I’d listened to the reviews before taking the class. Practice exams don’t help at all. Pray for your grade |

Fall 2016 - Prof: Werner Ens
CommentsI recommend taking Ens. He is a very enthusiastic prof and very funny. Almost half of the course are just grade 12 stuffs. The other half are a bit overwhelming but it's fine as long as you study the notes and do the practice questions. Labs are not that hard, but make sure you double check everything before submitting and dont rush.AdviceAlways do the practice questions on the book as well as the practice exams. |
Comments
The course material wasn't so bad - boring, but not bad. The labs were very time consuming if you wanted to get a good grade. The midterm was alright, but the final exam was also way more difficult than anticipated despite doing all practice exams possible.Advice
Go to class, put effort in to the lab reports, and do many many practice questions
