The labs were super easy & the dissections were really interesting! Unfortunately, the lectures were really dull and were kind of like watching paint dry. In fact, they were so bad that the majority of the class stopped attending lectures a week before the midterm.

Advice

Don't take this course in the summer. There is far too much information to absorb in such a short period of time.

I really enjoyed this course and I thought both profs teaching this course were very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable in their field. They were both very willing to help students and you could tell they genuinely wanted you to do well in the course.

Advice

This fast winter term they started posting the lectures on UMlearn. I used this as one of my study tools and re-watched basically all the lectures, though I'm sure even if you just re-watched topics you have trouble with the most it would be very beneficial. I found 1030 easier than 1020 and the labs were actually quite interesting. Do not neglect this course if you really want to do well because there is a lot of material to memorize and understanding of specifics.

I had a lot of overlap between courses so easiness should be taken with an grain of salt. Definitely easier than Biol1020. Also more interesting IMO.

Advice

Pretty much a memorization course. I recommend flash cards and textbook figures for studying.

Video lectures... again. The classification part of this course was so meticulous and boring because you basically have to memorize words that hardly even resemble English. The plants section of the course was ridiculously boring but pretty easy. Its kinda cute how passionate Carla Zelmer is about plants because to me they're so boring haha. But very similar format to 1020.

Advice

Practice exams!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the assignments on mastering biology were good study tools especially for the plants section!

Ok course, midterm and exam is not hard but can be a lot of material to know, however, it is not hard material.

Advice

If you are in first year and taking a few other courses, do not neglect this course. Keep up with the material and do the labs in full (lab questions help for the exam). Also look online for the midterm answers since they do not share them.

Not hard if you put in the work. Zelmer's section is rediculously easy but dry, Scott's section is a littler harder but interesting (LEARN YOUR PHYLOGENETIC TREE)

Advice

Watch all of the lectures and make your own notes

Kevin's part of the course: memorization, memorization, and memorization. Carla's part of the course: surprisingly interesting and easy! The final exam covers mostly Carla's stuff and very little of Kevin's- which I think for most people, is a blessing. Labs were easy and fun. A lot easier than BIOL1020.

Advice

If animals/plants are irrelevant to what you actually want to do in the future- fake it till you make it: pretend that you love these topics and your time won't be too miserable.

It wasn't an easy course for me. It is required a lot of effort to memorize everything. The information not hard to understand, but there a lot of it.

Course is split it into plants and animals. You would have to learn a lot of weird names for both animals and plants. If you are not getting a major on plants or animals honestly i do not find it useful at all( maybe i will in my secodn year courses). Labs are easy do the assigmnets is a good way to keep your grades up. Both midterm and final was MCQ with a group part too.

New and often boring material, the prof is really enthusiastic in lab visits about plants which is nice.

Rent the video lectures in the science library
