Summer 2020 - Prof: Rumel Hadler
Comments(Took Summer 2021!) I took this through distance ed. There was a lot of reading for lecture notes, as well as for the textbook as well. The tests weren't too bad and for assignments Dr. Hadler would video chat with us to tell us what he was looking for and would give great feedback. I personally do feel this class would be better if it wasn't through distance ed, but overall it was interesting.AdviceRead and write the main concepts and definitions down from notes and textbooks - this is key for studying for exams as he uses lots of these in there, as well as examples. I'd also recommend not taking it through distance ed, but thats personal. |

Winter 2017 - Prof: Dr Derek Johnson
CommentsThe course was hard and I hated it TBH. Some people said its an easy class but for me it was not.Had to memorize a lot of stuffs my professor was nice and helped a lot so it was slightly better with me than my friends in other sectionsAdviceMy advice is that choose your prof carefully because some of the hardness of the course depends on the instructor honestly |

Fall 2019 - Prof: Rumel Halder
CommentsI took this course online, wasn't really interested in taking it but it's a prerequisite for almost all higher level anthropology courses. I wasn't a huge fan of how there were 3 exams; 2 midterms and a final. Also they make you write your midterms on campus and i've never taken an online course where you have to write your midterms on campus as opposed to online, especially because those midterms literally took 15-20 minutes to write so it seemed really pointless. There were a couple essays.AdviceStudy for the exams because there's a lot of info. |

Fall 2020 - Prof: Prof. Lara Gauvin
CommentsI took this course as a random elective hoping to boost my GPA, and it did! However, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this course. Dr. L was a great professor, she would always encourage class discussions and answer any questions. We had weekly challenges that were due on UMlearn, more like paragraph entries to think deeper into the topics we discussed that week. You learn about, Languages, Modern Day slavery, Uses of technology, Body image, and other relatable topics!AdviceThis course was an easy A+ for me, there were weekly challenges to upload (for an easy 30% of our grade), as well as a midterm and final exam. |

Fall 2017 - Prof: Ellen Judd
CommentsA class rooted heavily in memorisation, CONSTANT reviewing of the course material is necessary to thrive in the examinations (2 midterms and a final). Material all-around was pretty neat, but quite dry.AdviceThe prof you end up with will make or break your engagement with the course material, so take a significant amount of time to consider your options. |

Fall 2016 - Prof: Buddle
CommentsOverall an easy class, taught from the textbook. A lot of memorization but she gives lots of hints of what will be on the midterms/final examAdviceRead the textbook! |
Comments
Lots of memorization for the exams but somewhat easier than ANTH 1210 because you don't have to remember all the different species and traits. This prof taught directly from the textbook so lots of overlap.Advice
Spend more time studying the parts of the textbook that he goes over in his notes.
